An apparatus for making elastic laminates, the apparatus comprising: an anvil comprising an outer circumferential surface and adapted to rotate in a first direction about an axis of rotation, a plurality of pattern elements extending radially outward from the outer circumferential surface of the anvil, the anvil extending axially from a first end to a second end in a cross direction; an ultrasonic horn adjacent the outer circumferential surface; a spreader mechanism upstream of the anvil in a machine direction and adapted to stretch an advancing elastic film in the cross direction to a first elongation; and a means for consolidating the stretched elastic film to a second elongation in the cross direction, wherein the second elongation is less than the first elongation.
